A great steaming pile of Blog

Had a full day, if not an especially interesting one. Went around town taking pictures of Casman Building projects, home for a run and then off for Bob's to...... Fogg and Suds.

Took Jasmine around with me, She seemed to have a good time but was a bit miffed she didn't get to get out at every stop and run around. Still she was lucky to get out at all.

I'm pleased to see people still write these articles. It's great to know that as a roleplayer and reader of this book I present a danger to society and to myself.

Updated some web stuff. Finished laying out the basement walls etc, now I just need to build them. I built the storage cupboard wall. Had a spot of bother getting it exactly right but came right in the end.

Had lunch at Tony Roma's and went to the trade show. Not as big as usual. I'll wait by the phone for all our winnings to roll in.

Watched Phone Booth on DVD.

Got up early and went out and bought some lumber and a shower. Dug up the rough in for the bath and just about had a heart attack because it seemed like there wasn't one there. Phoned the Cherrywood guy and discovered I had to dig down about a foot and sure enough there it was. I'll take up the framing tomorrow.

Went to Underworld with Erik and Jamie and then to tea at Moxies. The movie was ok but it was an action movie with a lot of background. The background was obviously extensive but they didn't really get to tell that much of it in the movie sacrificing it for the action.

Friday, the best fifth day in the week there is.

Applied for a building and an electrical permit at Alberta Permit Pro today. Painless but costly $125 total.

My new running shoes came in the post today and Jasmine and me tried them out immediately. I was wearing them and she was just admiring them from a closer vantage point. Thank you New Balance for replacing the ones that wore out in a month.

Went up yo Fogg and Suds to ppick up Angie but ended up[ being surplus to requirements for Girls' night out transport. Angie didn't want to go on with the rest of the girls to "The Newfie Club" so we wenmt and had dinner at Boston Pizza.

The neighbours on the other side are now parking in front of our house. I will have to improve my game.

Well wouldn't you know it another slow news day. The parking saga continues and it is now documented. Watch this space for exciting updates.

Watched Survivor with Angie, Erik and Margie.

Here's a very funny story. Ther veracity is somewhat suspect but it's still very amusing.

Another slow news day I'm afraid. I'm sure plenty of kittens were rescued from trees and little old ladies won the lottery but as for me nothing, not a thing.

The battle for parking space in the front continues this evening a crafty piece of parking by me meant that there was one less parking spot than usual. It is a bit childish but hopefully the message is getting through. One of their vehicles , freshly washed, got parked in the mud at the back incidently right where somebody else usually parks. I'm hoping to spread this along the street. It can't end well but it makes life interesting. I'm sure it won't be long until tyres start getting deflated.

Launched jazplanet today.

Hockey draft completed today. Check out your teams.

Another slow news day. Work, run, sleep. Angie made some nice Chilli. Started a bit of work on JBodyPerformance. Received the fiirst of my new ebay purchases in the mail.

Phoned Alberta Permit Pro (about the basement). It seems I can build a platform in front of the electrical box which will sort that out nicely.

A rainy day all day. Cleared up for just long enough for me to get in a speedy run. Set a new PB with 7 km in 28'47 about 4'07 a km. Not too bad but my goal is to be below 4 minutes/km for the seven km.

Had dinner at Tony Roma's with Angie, Pat and Bob.

I'm getting on to getting a site together for posting some pictures to. Stay tuned.

Worked on the basement again today. Framed in the massive heating ductwork at the front end of the basement which leaves the back end and includes the bathroom spare bedroom and computer room.
Here's a couple of net Gems if you've not seen them already...

Bear to trampoline.

Star wars kid. Just watch the original and the SWK 2.0 there are 95 others. The news story is good back ground its on the right about half way down.
Got up early-ish and went up to 4c's and borrowed a Hilti gun(explosive charged concrete nailer) and some other tools. Called up Roger and he came around and we built two excellent saw horses but more importantly put up some framing in the basement. Erik was there also and we did a pretty good job of what is probably the hardest pieces f framing in the basement. Still havn't talked to an electrician about the electrical panel so the saga continues.

After we were done in the basement Angie went and got some pizza and picked up Tara (Roger's wife who works with Angie) and we watched "Confidence" on DVD. A good yarn staring Edward Burns and Dustin Hoffman. As the pizza was being dished out I put our replacement knobs on the cupboards they look much better.

By popular demand, more water bug. (See September 17th for full story).

waterbug

More water bug

Water bug, what water bug? Ahhhhh ! That water bug.

As you can tell by the time and date I got home late this evening from being out on the town. Started off going to "Fogg and Suds" for dinner and drinks with Angie's work mates then drove down to Boston Pizza for the remainder of the evening.

In attendance were: Tara and Roger, Charity and Gregg, Erik, Angie, Chris, Nicole and when we went down to Boston Pizza we met up with Marcia and Mike as well as Jeff and Chris.

Played a few games of bubble hockey with Roger and Erik. Not a bad game but it will require some practice.

Went out and around after we got home and collected up lots of pieces of wood from the local dumpsters for building with tomorrow.

Phase 1 of "Operation stop the neighbours parking their shitty truck in front of our house" begun. The neighbours have 3 renters living with them and each has a car. The neighbours have 1 SUV themselves as well as a work truck which is routinely covered in mud. They have two parks at the back and one park at the front. Total parks 3, total vehicles 5. This means that they are two short and often park in front of our house.

This is bad enough as if we have visitors there's almost nowhere to park as this goes on all along the street, but the other day the woman neighbour kicked all the mud off the bottom of her work truck in front of our house covering it with mud and making it impossible for anyone else parking there to get out of their car without standing in mud. The game was on.

Today I used a shovel and scooped up all the caked mud and threw it onto the road in front of their house (sound familiar to anyone?) I then washed the remainder their way. This will be interesting.

Slow news day. Watched the first survivor of the new series. Won a couple of items on e-bay. Didn't manage to get any work done on the basement. Borrowed Bob's orbital sander but the sandpaper with it was too aggressive. I'll get some new discs tomorrow.

It was the open home at work today. Got to meet Margie's Mike again and ordered new knobs for the kitchen and cupboards around the house.

It is even colder today than yesterday and the day before but no snow. One of the guys at work found a "water Bug" by a down pipe. This thing was huge apparently they grow up to 50mm but this thing was at least 80mm and I've seen one even bigger than that. If you don't like insects this is one to really not like.

Put in 3 hours in the basement. Hung a sheet of drywall and put the firsty layer of plaster in in one section. I'll be sanding and applying layer two tomorrow night if all goes to plan.

Super cold again today. Just one week left of summer, I can only imagine what the winter will be like. No snow today though. Not much to report.

Ran 7 km in 29'23 a new record that's just on 4'12 per km. Not too bad. My goal is to run 7 consecutive sub 4 minute kms before snow sets in. We'll see I guess but the way things are going I'm not going to be doing the last two races of the season as they are in the forest and with so much rain it is just going to be a nightmare. There's already too much mud and things are going to be getting wetter.

Got a lead on job teaching grade 2 we'll see how that pans out.

Saw "The Order" with Heath Ledger. Not bad.

Turns out nothing else worth reporting happened today. The snow was the high point or low point depending on how you feel about really cold weather in the Summer.
Believe it or not it snowed this morning. Yes that's right it snowed on the 15th of September which, for those of you who follow the seasons, is still officially summer. Not enough to settle on the ground but enough to stick to you jacket and hair.

more later.

Rob and I went to Revelstoke (now Rona) and I bought a digital thermostat and a new tool belt. Had a brunch made by Bob, went to Debbie and Jerry's to drop off Debbie and Julian's birthday gifts. Watched Jerry and his Dad working in the ouring rain putting down some concrete then went and picked up Erik. Went to the mall and shopped aroung a bit. Left town at about 3pm. Got home by 7:45.

Installed motion sensor lights and the digital thermostat. No problems.

Well the electrical box is about 79 inches, 12 inches above the maximum allowable height so the electrical panel sage continues.
Saturday, September 13, 2003
Went for a run around the mall and back before going with Rob to his apartment and shifting the last few large pieces of his furniture to the new house. Dropped large pillows and carpets off the balcony and took a huge chunk of skin off my finger loading them into the back of Bob's truck.

Had some Quizno's toasted submarines for lunch and went on to Home Depot to look at some baths before returning to the house for Julian's 2nd birthday.

Val had bought Gord's electrical codes book along for me to peruse and I discovered that the main breaker of the electrical panel can only be a maximum of 1.7m or 67" above the floor. I think our is now too high. The electrical panel saga continues.
After the birthday we went to the near home depot to look at baths again and bought a plumbing and electrical wiring book.

Went back to Pat and Bob's before leaving again to see One Day in Mexico. A Robert Rodriguez film following along from "El Mariachi" and "Desperado". Margie picked up Ed (Jerry's brother) and Rob and Angie and me went to the South Common and met Val. $13.50 a ticket. Crazy!

John Ritter, 3's company Hooperman etc.... Died today, so did Johnny Cash.

Drove down to Edmonton this afternoon. Uneventful.

Bob took Jasmine to the Sandy Beach pet accommodation and saw a guy fall asleep at the wheel and crash his ford Ranger on the way.
Just when you thought it was safe to come back to Blogpile... more unanswered Sept. 11th questions.

OK unless it is a really interesting story no more Sept 11th stuff.

Last night when I got home I managed to move the electrical box. I'm not really sure if I'm actually allowed to do this, but it is done. Now I can put a bath/shower in there without either aiming the nozzle at it or having the nozzle move through it. Yahoo (an exclamation of joy rather than a search engine).

In my quest to start a personal business I recontact some people I did a web page for and they want me to take another look which is good. J-body performance is their name as you can see from the site it is a little disorganised but they must be doing good business as they are opening a shop.

Here's an interesting site with a few nice paranoia inducing chunks of media.

More later.

Well the second anniversary of 9/11 or 11/9 depending on where you live. Either way it was one of those "where were you when you heard the news?" moments. I was just going into the school I taught in and as usual I passed through the office where a television was situated with a dozen heads craned upwards watching, I just saw the second plane crash into the buildings.

The school decided that after about an hour that we weren't to have TVs on in the classrooms. Too traumatic for the students (this was a high school). How's that for censorship. I didn't agree at all with shutting them off but it wasn't my call.

Here's a thought provoking article from the day

Being a passenger on the planes about to crash must have been scary but not, I think, as scary as being above the 90th floor or whatever it was and jumping rather than burn to death. To have had all that time and to have to choose the way that you were going to die not whether but how.

Not Much to report from today. Work, run and so forth.

Made a sad discovery in the basement, no it wasn't a dead body it was a poorly located drain, right below our electrical box so we have to move it before we can put in a bath or shower. Grrrr, very annoying.
Tired at work again today but the calves took a big turn for the better just after lunch. Measured out some distances for my runs so I know how far a km is and I can start improving my times.

A little bit of work on the basement.

Went for dinner with some friends.
My Calves are still a bit sore but getting better. Results of the race are posted here.

I stayed up until almost 1am getting the film finished. Done now and pretty good for the amount of time I out in. Once again it works out at about 1 hour of post-production per minute of finished film. Time well spent.

Very tired at work. No kidding.

Well I ran my half marathon today and finished in 1:39'11 not too bad but not quite as fast as I'd have like it to be. Next year I'll be faster.

I'm in the middle of editing the video footage that Angie took to immortalise the event and it should be done soon.

My calves are a little sore as I stopped dead as soon as the race finished and they set up almost immediately.
My steaming blogginess chronicled for your reading pleasure.
